Maruti Suzuki has begun assembling the Jimny SUV in its Gurugram Plant. According to the industry reports, the automaker has already assembled 50 units of the SUV from CKD kits imported from Japan.

Maruti Suzuki began the trial assembly of the 3-door version of the Jimny in India and is very likely to begin the exports from India soon. For the production of Jimny, Maruti Suzuki has allotted an assembly line in Gurugram which is quite similar to the one used to manufacture Maruti Suzuki Gypsy.

It is pretty clear that the 3-door version of the Suzuki Jimny is only meant to be exported from India and it is not likely to be ever seen in the Indian showrooms. The automaker might be introducing a 5-door version of the Suzuki Jimny later in India and it might be under development already. The 5-door version of the SUV would then rival the 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar which is under development too.

If launched in India, the 4th-gen Jimny could be received well as the 2nd-gen Suzuki Jimny, sold as Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, was on sale in India for almost 30 years and it still is quite popular despite being phased out.

The Jimny is likely to be powered by a Suzuki K15B engine that manages to produce 106 PS of power. Paired to a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed torque converter automatic and powers up the rear wheels or offers a four-wheel-drive.
